Topical Events

We see all the trouble in the Middle East between Israel and the Arabs and ask ourselves:

What does this mean?

What is going to happen?

Are you interested in what the Bible says about Jerusalem?

The Bible has a good track record in forecasting future events. Such as:
  • The birth of Jesus. Isaiah 7:14.
  • Where he was born Micah 5:2.
  • His death by crucifixion. Psalm 22:14-22.
  • His resurrection. Psalm 16:9-11.

And about Jerusalem; that city is going to be an important place in God’s purpose with the earth. We should pay attention to the prophets:

“Jerusalem, the city which the Lord has chosen.” 1 Kings 14:21

“In Jerusalem shall my name be forever.” 2 Chronicles 33:4

“For Zions sake I will not keep silent, and for Jerusalem’s sake I will not rest….you shall be a crown of beauty in the hand of the Lord, and a royal diadem in the hand of your God.” Isaiah 62:1,3.

“I create Jerusalem a rejoicing, and her people a joy. I will rejoice in Jerusalem, and be glad in my people.” Isaiah 65: 18,19.

There is a lot more, from the Old Testament, as we might expect. But Jesus is very clear in promising bad news for Jerusalem:

“Jerusalem will be trampled on by the gentiles until the times of the gentiles are fulfilled”. Luke 21:24.

We think this time is about now. Look at what Zechariah wrote, at around 500 b.c.

“I am going to make Jerusalem a cup that sends all the surrounding peoples reeling. On that day, when all the nations of the earth are gathered against her, I will make Jerusalem an immoveable rock for all the nations. All who try to move it will injure themselves. On that day I will set out to destroy all the nations that attack Jerusalem.” Zechariah 12:2,3, 9.

And then, to fix a future time on this amazing prophecy,

“I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him, as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him, as one grieves for an only son.” Zechariah 12:10.

What we see in prophecy is:

  1. Jerusalem in big trouble from many nations.

  2. Divine intervention will destroy those who fight against Jerusalem.

  3. Jesus Christ will reveal himself to a hitherto unbelieving nation of Israel, who will finally recognize their Messiah [Saviour], as he who was crucified by their forefathers.

What happens next?

Jesus Christ takes over world government to fulfil many other Bible prophecies, including peace on earth, true equality for all people, changes for the better in everything, and eternal life for his saints.

[Incidentally, he will reign as King in a rebuilt Jerusalem. Psalm 2:6.]
